It is nice finding that place where you can just go, refresh and relax.
Mai Kao Beach is probably my favourite stretch on the Northwest coast of Phuket, Thailand. The sand stretches as far as the eye can see, it’s the longest beach in Phuket and is blessedly unspoiled as it is part of the Sirinat National Park. This is probably the most deserted beach in Phuket. And the word “serenity” is the perfect word to describe it.
The Sunset
Though Mai Khao Beach is considered unsuitable for swimmers due to strong currents, yet, this makes it perfect for tourists who seek tranquility and relaxation. When you stroll on the beach you might see at most a handful of fellow tourists. The quietness is amazing. One can easily spend hours sitting on the sand, listening to the waves breaking and enjoying the view – as the beach is a slight concave it seem to stretch as far as the eye can see.
Naturally, as the beach is located on the Northwest coast, the sunset view on Andaman Sea is amazing. For those who like taking photos, the half hour before sunset provides an ideal opportunity to explore the changes of colour of the sky.WHERE WE STAYED
We stayed at Marriott Vacation Club, 20 minutes from Phuket International Airport. (A BIG thanks to our dear friends, Bimbo & Helen for their generosity.) We had a wonderful retreat-type weekend and memories to treasure forever.
The ResortI was REALLY impressed – it was stunning! The staff were amazing – they cater for your every need. The design is timeless and the facilities are first class. Superb! From great ambience, to the hotel room with huge area complete with private balcony, cozy living room, kitchen and I want to highlight this – the master bathroom was huge with an oversized tub and separate shower. The two-bedroom apartment was huge enough for a couple like us. I would highly recommend staying here.
The resort is probably not new but facilities such as swimming pools, spa and gym are fabulous. You’ll never get bored as the resort offer many activities everyday. In the morning you can practice yoga with their in-house yoga instructor. There are water sports activities too. At night, they have a film showing – great for kids while having dinner or relaxing at the pool side. You can unwind at the bar and restaurant or pamper yourself with therapeutic massage at the spa. This is built ideally for families and honeymooners too.
Visit and Dine at JW MarriottApart from staying at Marriott Vacation Club you can chill and dine at JW Marriott by resort’s shuttle. The lobby bar was obviously my favourite spot at the hotel.
Favourite Local DessertIf there’s one thing I will never skip whenever I’m in Thailand is the Mango sticky rice. (a traditional Thai dessert made with glutinous rice, fresh mango and coconut milk). I’ve tried different version – different style and taste though.
