Perfect Getaway in Koh Samui

I’m always happy whenever my husband and I manage to do a quick weekend getaway – it may be short and doesn’t leave much time for exploration, but sometimes all you need is quick rejuvenation.

Glad that I would be able to tick my bucket list this year for having a wonderful weekend getaway in Koh Samui.

Though we’ve been to Thailand several times – in Bangkok, Phuket and Krabi we find interesting yet to explore other island. This time, the purpose of our weekend in Koh Samui is purely relaxation – no island hopping and other water sports activities.

Nothing beats a relaxing day at the beach; it’s the perfect way to spend your weekend!

There is only one happiness in this life, to love and be loved.

HOW TO GET TO KOH SAMUI FROM SINGAPORE

Koh Samui (aka Samui Island) is just 2 hours away from Singapore along the southern tip of Thailand, so it makes for a convenient spot for a quick weekend jaunt. Surprisingly though, not many airlines fly direct to Koh Samui from Singapore, so prices aren’t as competitive as spots like Bali or Bangkok which have many more options for you.

Also, Samui International Airport is adorable – the moment you step off the plane, you feel like you’re in a resort or spa already, from the open-air, little hut like buildings, to the very happy looking trams that transport you to and from the planes. Also, they have complimentary food both on and off the plane for guests. Awesome!

WHERE WE STAYED

Koh Samui is unique among Thailand’s islands in maintaining a broad appeal for everyone. This helps to give the distinctive relaxed atmosphere that sets it apart.

Take your pick from simple beachside bungalows, to the one of the many luxury resorts or villas on the many white sand beaches of Chaweng Beach to the lively yet relaxed atmosphere of Lamai Beach to the timeless feel of Bophut’s Fisherman’s Village to the tropical beach paradise of Maenam.

We stayed in Amari Resort, an idyllic setting on a secluded stretch of Chaweng beach with the majestic ocean, soft white sands and spectacular views, and 5 km. away from Samui International Airport.

There are two areas to the hotel, one by the beach and the other across the street. We stayed across the street, in the Thai village close to the deluxe accommodations.

Definitely instagrammable! The style is a perfect blend of contemporary and Thai. Everything looks new, fresh and is extremely tastefully done.

The Restaurants

The restaurants are great (Prego and Amaya), the service is crisp, and there are lots of intimate corners to laze around and read. The breakfast was fantastic – continental and Asian.

The Spa

Apart from enjoying a dip in one of the pools or taking a stroll along the beach, make sure to indulge with pampering treatments at Breeze Spa. Well, two thumbs up for the great massage here. Worth the price though. By the way, you can also explore for fabulous massages at great prices outside the resort.  We tried “East by South” on Chaweng (few steps from Amari). We had prodigious hot herbal massage for 90-minutes.

The Pools

The pool nearest the beach was the busiest and the one that is perfect for family with kids. The other pool at the Thai Village is quieter. Both are spotlessly clean and towels are on hand for guests.

The Beach

The resort is located at the northern end of Chaweng beach and the location was perfect in my view. The stretch of beach that the hotel is located on is cleaned daily by the hotel staff and I found it to be the cleanest part of the entire Chaweng beach. The Amari is far enough from the hustle and bustle so you’re not hassled by it but close enough if you want to venture into the midst of it.

It’s definitely a perfect getaway for us!

But remember, your perfect beach day is truly how YOU make it!❤️

Please do share your great experiences in Koh Samui. We want to explore next time.
